Classical Guitar Alive Mission Statement
Albert Einstein said, "If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music.
I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.. ...I get most enjoyment in life out of music."
We seek to improve the quality of life of many through musical expression. Music has the power to inspire,
lift the spirit, ease suffering, and heal the listener. The classical guitar and its ancient musical ancestors
are uniquely qualified in this regard. Many cultures and histories from present-day to Biblical times mention
listeners being soothed by the sound of a guitar, a lute, a lyre, and countless others. Our mission is the
betterment of mankind through music, and we seek to achieve this by bringing classical guitar music to the
wides possible audience.
This is currently achieved by:
1. The production and distribution of the Classical Guitar Alive! public radio program each week to over 200
stations across America, also internationally to over 130 countries worldwide. The program enthusiastically
promotes classical guitar-related music, performers and composers from many nationalities and cultures while
integrating the work of American composers and performers.
2. A community outreach program , which presents vibrant classical music performances at no cost to under-served
audiences in hospitals, hospices, childrens' shelters, homeless shelters, community centers, senior centers, and schools.
3. Insuring the future of the classical guitar in new and innovative ways, by promoting and encouraging young
talent, supporting of classical guitar scholarships, encouraging and commissioning contemporary composers to write
for the instrument, and also through scholarly research into lost or forgotten works by notable composers of the past.
